If You’re Thankful and You Know It

by Rachel on November 24, 2008

Good morning! I’m back from my last round of travels, and I couldn’t be happier :) These last few weeks have been a whirlwind, and although I won’t be traveling this week, it will still be a busy one for me. Not only am I hard at work on session plans for December (which of course means writing a few new songs!), but I am gearing up for my performance on Wednesday night. Lots to do, so let’s get to it!

I have found over the last few years of working with kids that there are a few songs out there that will always be crowd pleasers. Among those are “Old McDonald,” “The Wheels on the Bus,” “BINGO,” and “If You’re Happy and You Know It”. For this reason, I am always using these as templates for new songs that incorporate the themes, ideas, and goals I am addressing. Since it’s Thanksgiving time, I simply changed “happy” to “thankful” and voila! A simple yet fun and effective song to celebrate the season.

If you’re thankful and you know it, clap your hands!
If you’re thankful and you know it, clap your hands!
If you’re thankful and you know it, then your face will surely show it.
If you’re thankful and you know it, clap your hands!

If you’re thankful and you know it, stomp your feet!
If you’re thankful and you know it, stomp your feet!
If you’re thankful and you know it, then your face will surely show it.
If you’re thankful and you know it, stomp your feet!

If you’re thankful and you know it, shout I am: “I am!”
If you’re thankful and you know it, shout I am: “I am!”
If you’re thankful and you know it, then your face will surely show it.
If you’re thankful and you know it, shout I am: “I am!”

If you’re thankful and you know it, do all three!
(clap clap, stomp stomp, “I am!”)
If you’re thankful and you know it, do all three!
(clap clap, stomp stomp, “I am!”)
If you’re thankful and you know it, then your face will surely show it.
If you’re thankful and you know it, do all three!
(clap clap, stomp stomp, “I am!”)
