Moving Out of the Basement
Episode 58
This episode is all about how making a change in my work environment (moving my home office out of my dark basement and into a sun-drenched room upstairs) completely changed my feelings toward my work.
Mentioned in the Episode
As promised, here are a few photos of my new home office. There are still some finishing touches to be added, but I couldn’t be happier with how it has turned out. This space looks and feels like “me” — I love spending my working hours here.

So much sun! I will never stop appreciating that after being in the basement for over 2 years.

The storage furniture in my new office used to serve as guest room furniture. It was easier to just leave the big storage pieces in both rooms, and luckily they were similar enough that the decor still (mostly) matches.

I use these microphones often enough that I wanted to keep them someplace handy, and when they aren’t in use, they serve as appropriate decorations.

The wicker furniture used to be in the upstairs sitting area, but I repurposed it for this little corner of the office. My daughter Mia has claimed the corner as her own, and LOVES sitting on the chair draped in that super soft blanket.

Real talk: that closet is still full of clothes and other assorted stuff. At some point I’ll find a new home for it, but for now there is enough storage space that I don’t need to use the closet for office purposes.

That rug just spoke to me. Although I tried to keep the office mostly “grown-up appropriate”, I had to sneak at least a little pop of hot pink in here!

I left the wall space over the chest blank intentionally, since I plan to record videos using it as my backdrop.

“Don’t count the day…make the days count.” That framed puzzle has been featured in every office I’ve ever had. I love it.

And that’s the end of the new office tour. If you have any decor suggestions for me, please share! Once I’m completely finished organizing and decorating, I’ll write a much more in-depth post with better photos.
