These Halloween Songs are Spookily Effective!
One of the best things about fall is all of the fun holidays, and is there anything better than the spookiness of Halloween? I love hearing my clients’ and students’ excitement as they tell me about their costumes and listen to best impressions of what a ghost sounds like; their anticipation makes this time of the year even sweeter.
Don’t Forget About Point A
Yesterday as I was cleaning out my Google Drive, I came across some notes I had written back in 2010. I had titled the document “Point A to Point B”, and it was all about where I was in my career currently and where I wanted to end up eventually.
More Than Just Greeting Songs
One of the very first things music therapy students learn when preparing for practicum experiences and internships is a greeting song and a goodbye song. Learning those staple songs seems like an easy task, but it’s much more complex than it sounds.
{GGB 74} How We Do Early Childhood Classes
As we approach the fall season, Jaime and I are both busy preparing for new sessions of our early childhood music classes. Since this topic is top of mind for us right now, we thought we’d take this opportunity to do a deep dive into our role as early childhood music class instructors.
Listen & Learn Music: Making My Life Easier Since 2015
This blog post is by Cacia King, MT-BC, a board-certified music therapist who joined the team here at Listen & Learn Music after years as a reader and Listen & Learn Plus member. Thank you, Cacia, for sharing how you have benefited from L&L resources in your first few years of practice!
I have a clear memory of the first time a colleague told me about Listen & Learn Music. I was about to take on one of my first school contracts and would be working with lots of small children. I had a pretty solid repertoire, but I wanted more resources, more songs, and especially, a different spin on the same goals.
Bringing Fall Into Your Sessions & Classes
Pumpkin spice lattes, cozy sweaters, apple picking, the crisp air and the crunchy leaves……yup, I’m dreaming of fall! Here in New England I can already feel the season changing, which means fall is coming soon and it’s time to prepare some goal-oriented fall-themed songs.
{GGB 73} Being the Boss: Hiring, Managing a Team, & Other Tough Stuff
We talk pretty often on the podcast about running our own businesses and the challenges associated with it. One of the BIGGEST challenges is being a boss — deciding when the time is right to grow our team, conducting interviews, completing the hiring process, and then managing a team.
Join Me in Celebrating 10 Years of Listen & Learn Music!
Right around this time back in 2008, I hit “publish” on my very first blog post here at Listen & Learn Music. I was a brand new, bright-eyed music therapist, eager to share the songs I was writing and hoping to connect with other new professionals like myself.
ABCs and 123s: Songs that Make Learning Easy!
One of the most inspiring aspects of working with children is witnessing their learning and growth. At the beginning of the year, it’s important to assess what my students know, and where extra support would be beneficial. These fun and goal-oriented songs address basic academic skills that are essential for all little ones to learn!
{GGB 72} Braving Back to School Season
This week’s topic was a no-brainer for two moms who also work with school-aged children. It’s back to school time, which comes with a whole lot of excitement, overwhelm, challenges, and planning.
