The Introvert's Guide to Thriving in an Extroverted Career

Well, this cartoon basically sums up my entire professional life. Every single day, I push outside of my comfort zone in order to be the best music therapist and business owner that I can be, even when I’m feeling completely spent.

If your work day is anything like mine, it probably includes facilitating sessions, teaching classes, leading groups, interacting with client families, speaking with colleagues, networking with other professionals, and attending work-related events. Add to all those face-to-face interactions the inevitable emails, social media exchanges, and phone calls, and I’m 100% “peopled out” by the end of the day (if not sooner).

I absolutely love my career, and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. But I will admit that it’s been a steep learning curve, becoming good at my job, given the fact that I am a total introvert. I’ve had to challenge myself with uncomfortable and sometimes downright scary situations in order to grow as a music therapist, and after 10 years, I finally feel like I have insight to offer fellow introverts who also experience similar professional challenges.

That’s what led to the creation of The Introvert’s Guide to Thriving in an Extroverted Career. I kept hearing from other music therapists (and people in related fields) who felt like their introversion stood in their way at work, and I wanted to help.

Look Inside - The Introvert's Guide to Thriving in an Extroverted Career

The Introvert’s Guide is a holistic approach to achieving success and happiness in a career that often requires a great deal of social interaction and energy. This self-paced, online course (approved for 3 CMTE credits) focuses on mindset, habits, and strategies to help you best utilize your superpowers as an introvert in your professional life.

All of the details about the course are right here, but I want to give you a quick look inside while I have you here. These are screenshots from the actual course page, where participants will access all of the included materials.

Introvert's Guide - Course Companion & Workbook

The course companion and workbook is the first stop in our behind-the-scenes tour. I recommend that participants either print this or have it open on their computer as they go through the audio modules.

Introvert's Guide - Modules

The audio modules are the backbone of the course. Each module consists of 4 sections (all of which are listed on the course details page). Participants can either listen right inside the course, or download the MP3s. There are also text versions for those who prefer to read (or want to read along and highlight while listening).

Introvert's Guide - Video Interviews

Next are the video interviews with fellow introverted music therapists. Again, participants can either watch these videos right on the course page or view them in full screen mode.

Introvert's Guide - Bonus Q&A and Facebook Group

The course includes a bonus Q&A in which I offer suggestions and strategies in response to introverted music therapists’ specific challenges. I also link to my Introverted Music Therapists community on Facebook.

Introvert's Guide - Post Test and Evaluation

Last but not least are the post-test and final evaluation forms, which can both be submitted right from the website.

Now that you have an idea of what the course itself looks like, I hope you’ll head over and read more about the content itself, and why this course may be a good fit for you. Enrollment is open now through September 19.
