January

Ahh, January. A month that seems to stretch on and on, after all of the excitement of the holidays has passed. Luckily for me, January is filled with birthdays – my husband’s, sister-in-law’s, and brother’s – so that makes it just a little more festive. And of course, Dr. Martin Luther King Junior’s birthday is coming up in just a few weeks, which means a day off :)

It’s a month of fresh starts, so without further ado, here is a fresh new song:

January brings a brand new year
The holidays are over and winter’s here.
Thirty-one days of snow and cold,
We’ll find out what this year will hold.

January brings a brand new year
Which starts on New Years Day
Celebrations and parties too
“Happy New Year,” we all say.

January brings a brand new year
The holidays are over and winter’s here.
Thirty-one days of snow and cold,
We’ll find out what this year will hold.

January brings a brand new year
Let’s make a resolution.
To try our best, be nice to friends,
And help to stop pollution.

January brings a brand new year
The holidays are over and winter’s here.
Thirty-one days of snow and cold,
We’ll find out what this year will hold.

January brings a brand new year
And special days to plan.
Martin Luther King Junior’s birthday
Remember this great man.

January brings a brand new year
The holidays are over and winter’s here.
Thirty-one days of snow and cold,
We’ll find out what this year will hold.

The Last Month of the Year is December

There was no question when I woke up this morning that it was December. All I had to do was see the thin layer of snow on the ground, and my suspicions were later confirmed when I ventured outside and was covered in the white stuff myself. December is here, ladies and gentlemen, and winter is not far behind!

So to kick off this twelfth month, here is a song all about these festive thirty-one days. Enjoy!

The last month of the year is December
It is number twelve, this we know
There are thirty one days and then the year is new
In December there’s so much for us to do.

The last month of the year is December
The air is cold and it may even snow
We’ll start to see all sorts of decorations
In all the different places that we go.

CHORUS

The last month of the year is December
There are many holidays to celebrate.
Some of my friends have Hannukah and Kwanzaa
Learning about traditions is so great.

CHORUS

The last month of the year is December
And our friends and family will soon arrive.
There’ll be trees and lights and cookies and some presents
‘Cause Christmas comes on day twenty-five.

CHORUS

The last month of the year is December
New Year’s Eve is on day thirty-one
We’ll stay up late and count down to midnight
Oh, isn’t December lots of fun!

Today begins a brand new batch of seasonal songs at school and in my students’ homes. I can’t wait to share them all with you over the next few weeks. But for now, enjoy the first day of December and if your weather is anything like mine, be careful out there!

November is Here

I hope you all had a fun and happy Halloween! Now that it’s over, it’s time to dive into November and all the fun things this month brings. I love Thanksgiving, and I’m excited about the songs I’ll be posting in relation to it in the coming weeks. But before we get to those, first things first. Below is the November song…I hope you like it!

For thirty days November’s here
Let’s give thanks and show good cheer.
The days are short and the wind will blow
It’s the eleventh month I know.

For thirty days November’s here
And Election Day will come.
Grown-ups will go to cast their votes
There will be a celebration for some.

For thirty days November’s here
Let’s give thanks and show good cheer.
The days are short and the wind will blow
It’s the eleventh month I know.

For thirty days November’s here
And next comes Veteran’s Day
We’ll remember those who served
And home from school we’ll stay.

For thirty days November’s here
Let’s give thanks and show good cheer.
The days are short and the wind will blow
It’s the eleventh month I know.

For thirty days November’s here
And then comes Thanksgiving Day.
While we eat turkey and pumpkin pie
We’ll be thankful in our own way.

For thirty days November’s here
Let’s give thanks and show good cheer.
The days are short and the wind will blow
It’s the eleventh month I know.

Elections, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving…what a busy month! I hope it’s off to a good start for you – see you tomorrow for some rockin’ with maracas :)

Today it is October

Wow! Fall is in full swing, and today we begin the 10th month of the year. 2008 has flown by so quickly…is it just me, or does time speed up with each passing year?

October is almost synonymous with pumpkins, scarecrows, harvest, cool weather, and of course, Halloween. Though it is not my favorite “holiday” (much to the dismay of my dad, who is quite the Halloween enthusiast), I always put my lukewarm feelings aside and join in the fun – especially when it comes to my students! They love singing about bats, witches, ghosts, and goblins, so this month I have several new songs on tap.

Today it is October,
The tenth month of the year.
Summertime is over,
and autumn weather’s near.

Today it is October,
The leaves are turning brown.
The air is getting chilly,
And soon the leaves fall down.

Today it is October,
The tenth month of the year.
Summertime is over,
and autumn weather’s near.

Today it is October,
It’s time to celebrate
Fall festivals and Columbus Day
Oh, I can hardly wait!

Today it is October,
The tenth month of the year.
Summertime is over,
and autumn weather’s near.

Today it is October,
It’s time for Halloween.
Candy, spooks, and costumes,
And all those scary things.

Today it is October,
The tenth month of the year.
Summertime is over,
and autumn weather’s near.
