Instruments, Instruments, Instruments!

Music Therapy Round Table

The second Tuesday of the month always brings a brand new episode of the Music Therapy Round Table podcast, and this time around, we’re talkin’ instruments.

Kimberly, Michelle and I took on the difficult task of narrowing down our most essential instruments for use in the music therapy setting; it was quite interesting to hear the differences and similarities in our answers, since the three of us work in varying environments.

Honestly, we could have gone on and on when it comes to the topic of instruments. After all, they are — like the title of the episode states — our tools of the trade. My studio is overflowing with small percussion, and I’m always looking for new additions to my collection.

What does your collection look like, and which instruments would you consider to be your essentials? Head on over and listen to the latest episode, and share your answers to these questions!

Thoughts on Professional Development

Music Therapy Round Table Podcast

It’s the 3rd Tuesday of the month, and that means it is time for another episode of the Music Therapy Round Table podcast! This month we’re talking about professional development.

Check out what Kimberly, Michelle and I have to say on this topic — including our own personal definitions of professional development, what we count towards it, and our professional development goals down the road.

This particular episode comes at a good time, since another school year is beginning which always brings new challenges. I know that personally, I have lots of exciting changes and challenges ahead and need all the professional development I can get! Luckily there are many methods and resources from which to do so, as we discuss in the episode.

What have you done lately to further your own professional development?

A Meeting of the MTRT Minds…in Florida!

A Meeting of the MTRT Minds

The MTRT, better known as the Music Therapy Round Table, is a podcast hosted by myself, Michelle Erfurt, and Kimberly Sena Moore.  We’ve been working together from our respective states (Illinois, Florida, and Missouri) for the last year and a half, and finally decided that we needed to get together in person — other than at AMTA National Conference.

Since Michelle lives in Florida, naturally that was our first choice destination.  So Kimberly and I flew in this morning, and the three of us have been making plans and catching up all afternoon.  We’re very excited to fill you all in on our big plans for the podcast and the Music Therapy Round Table in general!

Happy Birthday, Music Therapy Round Table!

Music Therapy Round Table Podcast Turns 1

It’s a big month for the Music Therapy Round Table podcast, because we are celebrating our first birthday.  It seems like only yesterday that we tossed around the idea in San Diego at the 2009 AMTA Conference, and now here we are…13 episodes deep.

We’ve been contemplating a website redesign for the last couple of months now, and what better time to do so than a birthday?  So not only does our website look different, but so does our logo.  We’d love to know what you think of both.

While you’re there checking out the new digs, you can catch up on Episode 13, in which we discuss music therapy for the early childhood population.  Thanks for listening and contributing your feedback!

Get in on the Music Therapy Round Table!

MTRT-Silent-AuctionDo you listen to the Music Therapy Round Table?  It’s a free monthly podcast hosted by myself along with fellow music therapists Kimberly S. Moore and Michelle Erfurt.  While normally our communication takes place via the internet and Skype (we live in three different states), next month we’ll be coming together in person at the AMTA National Conference in Cleveland, Ohio.

Not only will we be presenting a CMTE course entitled “Music Therapy in a Web 2.0 World: Technology for Advocacy & Marketing” (CMTE Q, for those of you interested in attending!), but we have an item on the silent auction block that is up for grabs now. The winning bidder will receive a co-hosting opportunity on our podcast PLUS an hour-long coaching session with the three of us.  This item is valued at $350, and the minimum bid is $115.  Click here to read more or place a bid.

Will you be at conference this year?  If so, I’d love to meet you!  I’ll be hanging out at the Erfurt Music Resource table in the exhibit hall (come pick up a CD or songbook) and we’ll even be recording episode 10 of the podcast there.  Only a little over a month until the fun begins!
