23 Days of Gratitude | Day 10 - Fall Foliage

This may seem like a silly thing to be grateful for, but I feel it every time I drive or walk down a tree-lined street this time of year. Although there are plenty of downsides to living in the Midwest, the beauty of fall is NOT one of them.

Ever since September, I’ve been singing about the season, the changing leaves, and all of the colors around us with my students and clients. I think that, combined with how much my kids love this season, has led me to appreciate it all even more.

Fall takes its time getting here, and is gone too soon as the cold and grey of winter replaces it. Those months are interminable, so I learned as a child to savor this fleeting time. There’s a crispness that feels refreshing after summer, and excitement as the holiday season approaches.

But I’m trying not to rush ahead like I usually do at this time of year, and instead stop to admire the especially gorgeous trees and many other good things November brings.

Doing so has helped restore my faith in the world a little bit, what with all the ugliness happening around us. It’s pretty incredible that nature can still be so beautiful, isn’t it?
