23 Days of Gratitutde | Meditation

I’ve been dipping my toe into the waters of meditation over the last couple of years, but this fall, I decided to finally take the plunge. I knew from practicing on a sporadic basis just how effective meditation can be, so when I had the opportunity to take a class, I went for it.

Meditation is an awesome tool to have in your toolbox, especially at times when you feel stressed, overwhelmed, and scattered. I’ve definitely dealt with all of the above on a regular basis (really though, who hasn’t?) and when I actually practice meditation, I feel much more grounded and in control of my life.

All of the successful people I’ve listened to on podcasts and read about in books share that they start their day with meditation, and it makes perfect sense, just based on my little bit of experience. I love the old Zen saying that goes: “You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless you’re too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.”

Investing time and money in a class has upped my game by opening up my eyes to all the different forms of meditation, and helping hold me accountable for practicing consistently. I’ve learned that nearly everyone shares the same struggles I have: a tendency to get distracted, judging myself for the thoughts I have during meditation, and feeling like I’m doing it wrong.

In the last six weeks of making meditation part of my daily routine, I can honestly say I feel more calm and happy than I have in a long time. I’m beyond grateful for the benefits I’ve experienced, and also to myself for making self-care a priority in this way.
