This past week as we’ve been preparing for my son’s first day of kindergarten, I can’t help but think about how the past 5 years have flown by so quickly. I remember scrolling through Facebook and seeing all the first day of school photos, feeling sad for those parents while squeezing my own baby tight.
Then I blinked, and here we are.
As hard as it is to watch our babies grow up, it’s so much fun to see them develop their own personalities and grow into little people. They become entertaining conversationalists with their own stories to tell, and they own their independence.
I ran across the book If I Could Keep You Little when Parker was only 2 and Mia Belle was just a few weeks old, so I couldn’t yet relate fully to it. But I knew I would someday soon, which is why I bought the book that day.
Of course, I can’t resist turning a book into a singable story, which I did immediately with this one. I recorded it for a friend on her daughter’s 1st birthday a while back, and thought I would share it with you.
If you have young children, I can’t recommend this book enough. The illustrations are adorable and the story is lovely. It’s especially comforting (for both parents and children) for approaching big milestones like starting preschool or kindergarten.

Rachel, I teared up a bit listening to this song! What a sweet story and really lovely song. Thank you!
I still tear up every time I read the story or listen to the song! Glad you liked it <3
