The end of the summer means getting back into the routine not only of waking up for school in the morning, but also of going to sleep on time. I remember being a kid and dreading the earlier bedtime that came along with the start of a new school year, and I know children everywhere are feeling the same right about now.
This is the first “goodnight” song I’ve written, and while I wanted it to be appropriate for bedtime, I didn’t want to go all out lullaby. It has a bit of a groove to it, but the overall vibe is chill. I know it makes me want to do exactly what the little girl in the picture is doing!
I’m not in school anymore (nor do I work in one any longer), but I still find myself going to bed earlier once the end of August hits. I suppose it’s just one way of showing camaraderie with my students :)
I’d like to tell you I’ve spent this beautiful holiday doing all kinds of productive things, but that is just not the case! Luckily I got enough done on Friday that I can allow myself a day of pure enjoyment.
I started the day by picking up my new keyboard (yes, I finally found it and will give you the full scoop later this week), followed by a stop at Starbucks. I have to admit, it felt good to roll down the windows, open the sunroof, and sip my coffee. No air conditioning needed today.
I had lunch with one of my best and oldest friends, and now I’m getting ready to spend the rest of the afternoon by the pool. And what would this holiday be without a cookout (courtesy of my parents)?
Labor Day, for me, is a signal that summer as we know it is ending. That’s never an easy pill to swallow, which is why I’m filling it with things that make me very happy. Hope you’re doing the same!
If you need me in the next two weeks, it’s pretty safe to say that you can find me in one of my favorite spots: lounging right next to the pool. With my busy schedule in the studio, I haven’t had much time for fun in the sun…so I’m planning to make up for it during my end-of-summer vacation.
But that’s not all I will be doing in the weeks leading up to the fall session. There will still be blog posts to write, songs to record, gigs to play, and plans to make for upcoming classes and music therapy sessions.
I’m kicking off my little vacation with an exciting event — singing with a full band for the first time tonight! And luckily I’m used to running on little sleep, because early tomorrow morning I’m heading up to Chicago for a wedding and to celebrate my 3rd wedding anniversary with my wonderful husband.
I absolutely love teaching lessons and providing music therapy in the summertime, but I always look forward to these two weeks off afterward. I have found that it’s the perfect amount of time needed to unwind and get reinvigorated for the new school year. Are you taking any time off before the hustle and bustle of fall begins?
Many of my favorite blogs offer periodic giveaways to their loyal readers, and I am so excited to be following in their footsteps! I couldn’t have asked for a better freebie: the SleepPhones System by AcousticSheep.
SleepPhones are soft, comfortable headphones that are housed in a machine-washable fleece headband, perfect for wearing at night as you sleep (hence their name). They can be plugged into an iPod, CD player, radio or any other audio device with a regular headphone jack. Some of you might remember that I posted my own review of the SleepPhones (complete with personal pics!) after trying them out for myself last fall. I’ve been using them for months now; I just plug my SleepPhones into my iPod, tuck it underneath my pillow, and drift off to my favorite sleepy-time music.
Several readers wrote to me after my SleepPhones post to tell me they were purchasing their own pair. Now YOU have the chance to win a pair (valued at $54.95) just by leaving a comment at the end of this post by Sunday, 8 pm CT. [Note: Your comment must include an email address to be eligible to win, either through your Google ID or typed into your comment entry.] I’ll use random.org to select a winner, who will be announced on Monday, February 22nd. Good luck!
P.S. If you don’t win, you can still save on SleepPhones! AcousticSheep has generously offered a $5 discount to my lovely readers. Just use the coupon code “LALM5” when you place your order.
