There is nothing like making music with young children face-to-face, where we can interact through singing, movement, and playing instruments. Little did I know on March 4, the final week of my mid-winter class session, that the next time I would see my students, it would be through a screen.
From the end of March through July, I led virtual music classes via Zoom, and they were certainly better than no music classes at all. It was a fun challenge to figure out new ways to engage the children and make our sessions as interactive as possible. Like my fellow music therapists and educators, I learned to stretch my creativity and make the most of this medium.
After 16 weeks of leading virtual music classes, I took the months of August and (most of) September off to recharge and concentrate on other areas of my businesses. This week, I’m very excited to be returning to the screen for a new round of music classes!
I will be offering a themed virtual music class once per month, starting with “Fall, Fall, Fall!” this Tuesday, September 29, at 9:30 am CST. No worries if you can’t make it to the live Zoom session; registration also includes a song packet with the lyrics & chords, a full-length class video, and MP3s of the song recordings.
Music therapists, educators, and other professionals are welcome to participate in and use these classes (and all related materials) as inspiration for their own work. I am continuing to grant permission to use any and all Listen & Learn songs in your live AND recorded classes, sessions, and videos.
