I covered this song in yesterday’s “Sunday Singalong” video, and have been getting requests for my version of it ever since. What a compliment! So for those of you who want to use it with your own students or just for fun, I’ve got you covered.
Click below for a free download of my adapted lyrics, plus the chords. Please note that when I sing and play it, I capo the 2nd fret.

One of my Twitter friends reminded me how great it would sound on the ukulele, so I’m going to play around with that next. Oh, and feel free to adapt the lyrics further if you’d like. I hope you have as much fun with this song as I do!
Great job modifying the words to this song!! I have been wanting to share this song with clients for months now, but haven’t been able to come up with the right words. I love your version!
Thanks, Anne! So glad you like it!
Fabulous, thanks!
You’re welcome, Jessica :)
Hi Rachel,
Your song adaption is great:) but what I really want to tell you is I LOVE DROPBOX!
Thank you for mentioning it.
It feels like I have entered into a new life…there was the one before dropbox and now I’m in the after dropbox life.
It’s pretty amazing.
Thanks again.
Thanks Susan! Oh, and I know – Dropbox is seriously amazing. Who would have thought something so simple could make such a big impact on our lives, huh!
Rachel you Rock! I love this song and can’t wait to share your adapted version with my students. Rock on.
LOVE this song and your adaptation too! I can’t wait to try it on a uke!
Love this song! (Personally and for work :) ).
I work only with hospice patients… some of them children (very little children). And I use this song too, however, I don’t change the chorus (the “We may only have tonight, but till the morning sun your mine, all mine. Play the music low and sway to the rhythm of love..” part). That’s because the goals of the sessions center on parent/child bonding, creating memories, and anticipatory grieving. I believe that this song brings up the topic of death and provides space for bonding. (Usually, in these sessions, the parent is holding the patient and they usually kiss their little one during the chorus… all on their own, without any kind of suggestion from me.)
This is all just a testament to how the same music/song can be interpreted in different ways due to the situation.
I would love to use this awesome cover, but I’m having trouble downloading the lead sheet. The link takes me to iCloud and I don’t think it is being downloaded anywhere….I would really appreciate your help! Thanks so much!
