Before I sign off, I’d like to ask for some feedback from you: what are your favorite Christmas songs to sing with your child or students? I’m especially interested in hearing about unique and original songs, even if they are simple as can be. Sometimes keeping it simple is best, especially when it comes to kids!
I love “Santa, Santa” by Lois Birkenshaw-Fleming. I believe it’s in her book, “Come On Everybody, Let’s Sing!”
The lyrics are,
“Santa, Santa, tell me please
How many days ’til Christmas Eve?
‘__ days and __ nights
Christmas Eve will be in sight!'”
I love it because of the countdown factor (the children love it too!) AND because it’s a great assessment tool. I have students pretend to be Santa, and answer the other children by singing the last half of the song individually.
Oh, I love this song concept! Especially with children you work with on a daily/weekly basis…they would definitely get a kick out of the countdown as the days pass. Thanks so much for sharing!
