It’s Listen & Learn’s birthday, but YOU’RE getting the presents.
My baby is hitting double digits! It’s hard to believe that this little website I started as a brand-new music therapist is still going strong 10 years later. Recording the songs, creating the materials, and writing the blog posts that fill up these pages brings me SO much joy, but what fills me up even more is knowing that they are benefiting YOU.

Goal-Based Songs Inspired by Fond Winter Memories
As a child, I spent lots of time with my grandparents, and one of my favorite activities my sister and I would do with them was go ice skating. After ice skating at the cold ice rink, my grandpa would always make us some hot chocolate to warm us up.

Snowy Songs For Snowy Days
Here in New England, the weather has plummeted to single digits and every few days, a fresh blanket of snow covers the ground. I think it’s safe to say that winter is firmly upon us! For many, the most exciting days of the year have passed and now the doldrums of winter have begun. But once the snow starts to come down, it’s always a nice change of pace to brave the cold and play in the snow!
Of course, I always incorporate winter weather songs into my music therapy sessions and music classes during these snowy months. I like to prepare my clients and students for the upcoming changes they might see during the season, and nothing is more fun than pretending to catch snowflakes on your tongue or rolling a snowball with a bunch of four-year-olds.
Music Therapy: Applications for Communication
Over the last (almost) 12 years since becoming a music therapist, I’ve given countless presentations about my profession and work. I love educating people about the field of music therapy, and all of the ways in which I’ve been able to help people through music.
The more experience I’ve gotten doing these presentations, the more confident I’ve become — in fact, I rarely even get nervous anymore, even when speaking to large groups.
But I do have to admit: I’m still a little intimidated when it comes to presenting in front of professionals who work in other therapy fields.

What I’m Loving Right Now
Happy New Year! We are just 3 days into 2019, but so far, I’m pretty enamored with it. This week has been the perfect mix of lazing around the house and making big plans for the new year, and in doing both, I’ve come up with a pretty sizable list of current favorite things.

A Very Rambach Christmas 2018
Merry Christmas! I hope you’ve had a wonderful holiday spent with friends and family, along with a little relaxation as well.
As for me, this holiday season has been a…memorable one. Over the years, I’ve had a knack for getting sick right before Christmas, and apparently, I have passed that on to my children.

{GGB 77} Our Favorite Accomplishments of 2018

The Music Therapy CEO Project
It’s been an eventful month at Music Therapy Connections! My co-owner Katey and I started a new season of the Creative Business Breakdown, went on our inaugural “boss vacation” to Clearwater Beach, and launched a brand new program for music therapy business owners. Whew…what a whirlwind!
Incorporating Educational Skills into Thanksgiving Songs

Snow Day
Today was a first on several different levels. First of all, it was Parker’s first official snow day! And second, it was the first time in my life I’ve ever experienced a snow day…in November. Definitely didn’t see that coming!
Sitting Out #AMTA18
For the first time in 9 years, I’m not spending the first weeks of November preparing to attend the AMTA national music therapy conference. I’ve been to every national conference since my first in 2009, and this would have been my 10th, but I made the very intentional decision to reach that milestone next year, instead.
Preparing for Thanksgiving Through Song
Thanksgiving is one of the most delicious and humbling holidays of the year. However, when it comes to my students and clients, many of them are hesitant about the food and have a difficult time understanding what it means to be thankful.
For children with special needs, many of the aspects of Thanksgiving are challenging: eating so many different foods, often with lots of unfamiliar family members, a change from their typical routine, and being thankful (what does that even mean?!?) can be overwhelming.
Halloween on the High Seas
Last year, we started entertaining the idea of a Halloween-themed Disney cruise thanks to my son Parker’s love for this particular holiday, and this fall, we made it happen. The best part was that the entire trip was a complete surprise to the kids!

When I was working on my undergraduate degree, one of my music therapy supervisors said something to the effect of “We’ve got to celebrate the little victories, and sometimes it takes a long time to achieve them”. Visual aides are an essential part of my music therapy practice, and I use them every day. I wouldn’t have believed you if you had told me five years ago that I would spend my nights with my laminator (yes, of course I have my own laminator) making endless visual aides, but I would seriously be lost without them!
