I can say with 100% certainty that Year 10 has been my favorite chapter in Listen & Learn’s story thus far. For the first time ever, it has played a role equal to Music Therapy Connections in my professional life, and I’ve found a beautiful balance between the two. I’m more confident in my songwriting than I’ve ever been before, and I appreciate the difference my music has made in others’ lives on a whole new level.
This was the year I focused on gratitude and joy. I went back to my music therapy roots by taking on a contract with an older adult facility, and I wrote a song adaptation all about bananas that has inexplicably garnered 55,000 YouTube views.
Spending so much more time with my kids has brought a playfulness to my life that’s spilled over into my work, and for that I am extremely thankful. Playfulness was the missing piece over the last few years, and I can feel the difference in the songs I write and the way in which I share them.
My 2017 Gift to You
YOU are the reason that Listen & Learn Music is still alive and well today, and YOU are the reason I’ll be celebrating another 10 years in 2028. Speaking of playfulness, both of today’s songs offer quite a bit of just that. I wrote them specifically to include motions, and I don’t use accompaniment with either, instead doing the movements right along with my students and clients. “Polar Bear” and “Caterpillar Walks Around” were the biggest hits of Year 10 with my young students, and they are my gift to you today.
