23 Days of Gratitude | Day 7 - Mimi

I am infinitely grateful to my mom for all the things she has taught me and provided for me throughout my life, and could write an entire novel dedicated to her.

But in this crazy season of life, raising a toddler and a preschooler, I am especially grateful for everything she does for our family in her role of “Mimi”.

My mom has been an amazing grandmother to my children since the moment my son Parker was born. She not only took care of me in those tough postpartum weeks, but she also helped take care of him. She did the same two years later when my daughter Mia was born, and hasn’t stopped helping care for all of us.

She sacrificed her afternoon work hours to babysit both my son and daughter in the first year of their lives so that I could go to work, and when they started daycare, she became their primary mode of transportation.

23 Days of Gratitude | Day 7 - Mimi

Almost every day, my mom picks the kids up at my house, loads them in her van, and takes them to daycare and preschool. This is not an easy feat, especially when she is keeping track of coats, hats and mittens along with bookbags and other supplies.

My mom also picks them up and brings them home most afternoons. When I tell people that she does this for us, they are pretty envious…and I never take it for granted.

As I mentioned on Day 1 of this gratitude series, all of my children’s grandparents live within walking distance, which means we see them very regularly. Parker and Mia think that is perfectly normal, and don’t quite understand how lucky they are.

But someday they will, and I know they will appreciate and treasure their time with Mimi and the rest of their grandparents as much as we do now.
