This will most likely be the only time you’ll see a literal recipe post from me, as I am definitely not known for my prowess in the kitchen (just ask any of my friends or family members). That said, I felt the need to share this particular kitchen creation after feeling the positive effects of it recently.
I’ve always been a fan of drinking my greens in the form of both green juice and green smoothies. They’ve both been a pretty consistent part of my diet for a long time now, with the exception of the last few weeks. May and June were filled with birthdays, celebrations, and travel, which equated to a whole lot of eating out and not-so-healthy meals.
The results were exactly what you’d expect: low energy, brain fog, and exhaustion. I was having trouble motivating myself to be productive and present throughout the day, which is not a good thing when you a) run two businesses, b) work from home a lot, c) work with kids, and d) have kids of your own.
So a couple of weeks ago, I got my trusty Ninja blender back out and tweaked my typical green smoothie recipe. I traded some of the fruit for more nutrient-dense ingredients, and came up with a recipe that is not only delicious, but is also filling and energizing.
These 6 ingredients, when blended together, are seriously a game-changer! Here’s what goes into what I call my “green greatness” smoothie that I drink every single day:
- Hempseed (2 tablespoons) – adds texture, amino + fatty acids, and a yummy nutty flavor
- Kale (1 cup) – adds protein, fiber, and folate, aka brain power
- MTC Oil (1 tablespoon) – adds energizing fat that is easily digestible
- Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk (1.5 cups) – adds low calorie creaminess
- Unflavored Collagen Powder (1 serving) – adds protein. You can use any kind of protein powder you want, but I like this one because of the additional benefits collagen provides, including joint health and improved nails, skin and hair.
- Frozen Strawberries (3/4 cup) – adds sweetness, fiber, and antioxidants.
I dump everything into the blender and let it run on the highest setting for about 3 minutes. Although it’s usually pretty cold at that point already, I like to put it in the fridge for a half hour or so before drinking it.
My “green greatness” smoothie usually serves as breakfast AND lunch…THAT is how filling it truly is! Since I usually have a whole lot of work to accomplish before my kids get home, it’s nice not to have to stop for lunch if I’m in the flow.
Another benefit of drinking this smoothie every day is that I feel so healthy afterwards, it makes me want to continue the trend. I’ve found that I make much better meal choices now that it’s a regular part of my diet.
My three big health goals for July (and hopefully indefinitely) are a daily dose of “green greatness”, 64 ounces of water, and closing all 3 rings (exercise, moving, and standing) on my Apple watch. When I pay better attention to my health and body, I find that other areas of my life improve, as well. It’s amazing what you can accomplish with all that extra energy and nourishment!
