New Year's Eve 2016

2016 was a year full of ups and downs, but it most definitely ended on a high note (corny pun totally intended). I had the opportunity to perform at First Night Springfield, an annual New Year’s Eve event put on by my city’s arts council. And while performing was a joy in and of itself, the icing on the cake was that my friends and family — including my two children — were there, too.

My son Parker and his best buddy Dominic danced along to my entire set, occasionally crashing the stage to share in the action. My daughter Mia and Dominic’s little brother Rocco showed off their dance moves as well, but they didn’t have quite the stamina of their older siblings :)

Ringing in 2017

We got to watch the fireworks downtown right before my performance, and the best part is that we were home by 10 pm. I felt a little lame in comparison to some of the other celebrations I saw on social media, but in the end, popping a bottle of bubbly with my husband in our comfy clothes was the best way to ring in the new year.

Cheers to 2017

My focus word for the year is SHARE (which I wrote about here), and I did also set a couple of trackable goals for myself: 1) wear my FitBit every day to be more mindful of my health, and 2) write in my gratitude journal every day (I use this app).

They aren’t super ambitious goals, but they are habits that I think can potentially have huge benefits. I’m tracking my goals using these goal tracker sheets, which hopefully will help keep me accountable. That said, I’m giving myself permission to NOT feel guilty if I miss a day here or there…that’s what tomorrows are for.

I spent the first day of 2017 at home with my family, a perfect ending to this holiday break. I’m looking forward to diving back into work tomorrow and sharing my adventures with you as they unfold. Happy New Year!
